A friendly Complementary Therapy business with a small client base, now working from my family home in Exmouth, East Devon having relocated from Bletchley, Bucks 15 months ago.

Established in 2001

My Background

A bit about me well, where does one start? I have always been visually impaired I suffer from an eye disease called Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) for short. Much of my later life has been guided by my eyesight condition.

I attended in 2001 a one year residential course at the Royal National College for the Blind in Hereford. The course was ‘Remedial Therapy.

I gained qualifications in Swedish Massage, Reflexology, Vertical reflex therapy, F.A. Basic Care Of Sports Injuries and also the theory aspect in Anatomy and Physiology and as a Post Graduate went to train in Hammersmith London for a qualification with the Academy of On Site Massage.

So here we are GJA Therapies a sole trader whose aim is to promote our Therapies to achieve a better state of health for all with a more holistic approach.

Unfortunately for me after 16 years doing table massage I have RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury) I now primarily practice Reflexology, Seated Acupressure Massage and encompass techniques used in Vertical Reflex Therapy in my treatments.

Reflexology in Exmouth

We work mainly on the soles of the feet, sometimes hands, to locate areas within the body where energy has possibly become congested to a point where outward signs may be affecting ones own health and well being. Reflex points are stimulated on the feet to encourage our body to ‘self heal’ small crystal like deposits can be felt in certain areas of the feet which are believed to relate to areas of the body, by releasing these deposits we are able to literally flussh the body through and encourage fresh energy to flow and re-balance our body to our own individual ‘homeo-statis’.

A full Reflexology session takes 45 to 50 minutes to complete following an initial consultation to ensure the client has no contra indications to this form of therapy.

Seated Acupressure Massage in Exmouth

on site chair figures

Sometimes referred to as OSM (On Site Chair Massage). There are no oils used and the client remains clothed, loose clothing is more appropriate such as Track suit bottoms and T-Shirts.

A specially designed ergonomic chair is used for the client to be supported in a semi kneeling position with head forward resting in a face cradle to support the neck and shoulders, this position allows easy access for the practitioner to work on the neck, shoulders, arms and all of the upper and lower back.

The practitioner using a combination of finger, thumb and elbow presses on various pressure points on the clients upper body this allows muscular tension to decrease, relaxation to increase, energy to flow and assist the body to re-balance, promote the ridding of toxins and re-vitalise the body, this form of seated massage being done through clothes makes it very useful for use in the workplace it also only takes approx 30 minutes to complete a set full sequence, although in the workplace the sequences are adjusted to meet varying time limits.

A Combination

I have developed a one hour session of the two therapies above which offers 30 minutes of short sequence Reflexology and 25 mins of Seated Acupressure Massage. This powerful combined therapy offers the physical ‘hands on’ massage strokes typically used in table massage along with the inner body balancing techniques benefitted from Reflexology.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Can anyone have a Reflexology treatment?
A: Most people can have Reflexology however there are some contra indications that would prevent a treatment being given so it is always advisable to contact the Reflexologist in advance to discuss your treatment aims and objectives.
Q: How long is a Reflexology session?
A: A full session is typically around 50 minutes, slightly longer on your first visit as a Medical Consultation Form has to be completed.
Q: How often should I have Reflexology?
A: Initially a couple of sessions would be needed for your body to accept and establish the benefit of the treatment and the length of session and frequency would be unique to each client.
Q: Are there any side effects from Reflexology?
A: There are no known strong side effects from the treatment but there can be a ‘positive healing crisis’ following a session such as headache, tiredness, runny nose.
Q: I am in my first 3 months of pregnancy can I have a Reflexology treatment?
A: It would be unethical to do such a treatment in early pregnancy as possibly the extra stimulation to rid the body of toxins could be contra indicated to the well being of a baby.
Q: I suffer with Stress and Anxiety would Reflexology help?
A: Yes most certainly, stimulating reflex points would release negative stress toxins and promote self healing to achieve our own homeo-statis.
Q: What is the appropriate Clothes to wear during a session?
A: The most important factor is that you are comfortable, you remain clothed and footwear, socks etc are removed to allow access to the feet, these are wiped and we use a Lavender Cream to moisten the feet prior to a gentle massage of the feet before the treatment begins, you are comfortably positioned in a recliner type chair during the session.
Q: Can a Reflexologist determine what is wrong with me by examining and treating my feet or hands?
A: No Reflexologist should attempt to diagnose any health condition or advise a change in prescribed medication, a treatment can compliment mainstream medication and in many cases relieve side effects of certain medication, however often during a treatment questions can arise about what the Reflexologist or Client may have felt.
Q: Should a Reflexologist be insured?
A: Yes any professional therapist should have Public Liability Insurance and Medical Malpractice Insurance with a valid Certificate being on display in the treatment area.

If you have any questions relating to the treatments we offer please do not hesitate to contact us, we are here to help.

Testimonials & Contact

Gary has been doing my reflexology for over 15 years now and I would not use anyone else that is until Gary moved away to Devon he will be missed terribly as he was so in tune with the treatment sessions every time CP

As a busy Company Director I needed regular massage to relieve stress and tension and Gary has served me well for over 10 years but due to re locating to Devon our ways must part, but I could not recommend a more dedicated and professional approach to his therapy work than Gary can offer MK

Gary did regular Reflexology and Seated Acupressure on not only myself but my husband, two sons, nephew and niece and at times of crisis we all turned to Gary to settle us down balance our bodies and keep us going, a really personable guy with a truly positive and energizing approach to his work NS

I have been having Reflexology from Gary since 2001 when I was a case study for his training at RNCB College Hereford I find his positive and intuitive way of doing his treatments always beneficial and often the results last for many days JA
